Cairo: Kuwait has banned the use of electric scooters on public roads after recent complaints, local media reported Sunday.

The ban was issued by the Interior Ministry, which warned that driving unlicensed motorised bikes on public roads violates the law by putting lives at peril.

The country’s traffic general directorate has taken the decision due to increasing complaints about the use of electric scooters on public roads and footpaths, Al Jarida newspaper reported, citing a security source.

With the weather becoming moderate in Kuwait, people of different ages have recently developed the habit of going outdoors in residential areas in the evening riding electric scooters, Al Qabas newspaper reported.

Some riders use them to go to local cooperative societies or public gardens, it added.
