Kuwait City: The Education Committee has agreed to work on a plan for the gradual return of students to schools by September, local media reported.
A source revealed to the daily that the Ministry of Education submitted a comprehensive proposal to the government to reopen schools in April but health authorities rejected the plan due to the spike in cases and low percentage of vaccinated people.
With that being said, the Ministry of Education is seeking approval to allow high school students to conduct their exams in person, especially 12th grade students.
The source pointed out that there is coordination between the Ministry of Health and the respective sectors to come up with an integrated plan for the gradual return of students, as well as taking into consideration the safety of learners and teachers.
Online learning to continue
At the beginning of the year, the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Health met to discuss a proposal for the gradual reopening of schools. One main issue that was discussed at the meeting was in regard to vaccinating teachers and administrative staff who work in schools by the beginning of the second semester.
Then a month later, the Minister of Education, Dr. Ali Al Mudhaf, announced that all schools and educational institutions will continue e-learning for the second semester of the 2020/20201 academic year.
All schools, pre-schools and universities were closed on March 12, 2020 over the growing concern of the spread of the COVID-19 virus.
The only schools that were given the green light to operate to have in-person lessons are schools for children with special needs, who resumed classes on December 20.
