Cairo: Kuwait Sunday recorded 851 new cases of the novel coronavirus, raising the country's infection tally to 27,043, the Kuwaiti news agency KUNA reported, citing the Health Ministry.

The ministry also announced seven new deaths from COVID-19, taking the total such fatalities in the country to 212.

All the new cases were in contact with previously infected people or are being investigated for sources of infection, the Health Ministry's spokesman Dr Abdullah Al Sanad said in a media update.

There are 200 patients receiving intensive care treatment, the official added.

Health Minister Dr Basil Al Sabah earlier Sunday said that 1,230 more patients have recovered from the disease, bringing to 11,386 the total of such recoveries in the country.

Kuwait Sunday started enforcing a 12-hour curfew, replacing a total curfew that had continued for 20 days across the country to stem the spread of the coronavirus.
