Kuwait City: As Kuwait International Airport resumed flights as of 4:00am on Saturday, 37 flights have been scheduled to depart Kuwait and 30 flights are expected to arrive in the country.
The reopening of the airport came after Kuwait closed off all its borders, including sea and land, on December 21. The announcement came less than 12 hours before the shut down, thus leaving many Kuwaitis and residents stranded.
While the airport will be open for flights to and from Kuwait, the travel ban on the 35 countries is still in effect. The United Kingdom is the latest country to be added to the list, after the British government announced that a new strain of COVID-19 virus has been detected and has been found to spread faster than the existing virus.
The Kuwaiti government has stated that those looking to return to Kuwait from one of the 35 countries will need to quarantine in a none banned country for 14 days.
Procedures for travelers
Travelers looking to return to Kuwait will need to conduct a PCR test up to 96 hours prior to their departure, register on the ‘Shlonik’ application and quarantine at home for 14-days upon arrival.
As for those leaving Kuwait, passengers must register on the ‘Kuwait Mosafer’ platform and conduct a PCR test if necessary depending on rules of the country they are flying to. In addition, Kuwaiti travelers will need to also obtain health insurance and sign a pledge form via the Kuwait Mosafer’ platform.
