Dubai: Kuwait will suspend direct commercial flights to and from the UK, starting from Wednesday at 4am, until further notice, the civil aviation authority said in a tweet on Sunday.

The decision to halt flights to and from Britain comes a few days after the Cabinet’s announcement to resume flights and reopen land and sea borders, as of Saturday. The move was taken by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation over fears of the increasing cases of the new COVID-19 variant in the United Kingdom.

Meanwhile, the aviation authority announced plans to operate limited flights to repatriate citizens from high-risk countries after four months of suspension flights to these countries.

Instructions have been made to open ticket reservations for flights from the banned countries for Kuwaiti citizens, their first-degree relatives, and domestic workers. The flights will be operated by the state carrier, Kuwait Airways.
