She says her husband struck her on the spot of previous surgery, and left her bleeding
Dubai: A man has been fined BD500 (Dh4,880) after Bahrain’s top court upheld his conviction for violently assaulting his wife — breaking her nose and choking her during a domestic dispute.
The ruling marks the end of the man's final appeal, confirming earlier verdicts issued by both the Lower Criminal Court and the Court of Appeal. The defendant claimed the injuries his wife suffered were old and not caused by him, but forensic evidence indicated otherwise.
Medical examiners determined the injuries were recent, matched her police statement, and were serious enough to prevent her from performing daily tasks for over 20 days.
According to her testimony, the man struck her at the spot of a previous surgery, choked her, and left her bleeding. Her account formed the basis of the prosecution’s case, which charged him with causing intentional harm.
The court imposed a BD500 fine and referred the matter to civil court for further proceedings.
In his appeal, the defendant questioned the credibility of his wife’s statement, challenged the reliability of his children’s testimonies, and argued that the evidence was inconsistent.
However, the court found that the forensic reports were conclusive, the injuries clearly documented, and the legal process properly followed.
