Karachi: The federal government has said it would give the best possible treatment in the country or abroad for legendary Pakistani comedian and actor, Umer Sharif, in view of his health condition.

Sharif, who has fans in many countries, has been under treatment at Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH) in Karachi after falling seriously ill. In a recently released video, Sharif appealed to Prime Minister Imran Khan for support in his medical treatment.

Sindh Governor Imran Ismail and Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Chaudhry Fawad Hussain, went to the hospital to inquire after the health of the veteran artiste on the direction of Imran Khan.

Talking to media persons, Ismail said prayers of the entire nation were with the celebrity actor who had been battling for his life at the hospital.

He said the PM had issued directives to his Special Assistant on Health, Dr Faisal Sultan, to study Sharif’s case and find out how the government could lend support.

He said a medical board was being constituted jointly by a senior doctor of AKUH and Dr Sultan to examine the health of the actor.

“The Pakistani government and Prime Minister Imran Khan will fully facilitate treatment of Umer Sharif, whether in the country or anywhere in the world, in accordance with the decision of the medical board no matter whatever procedure has to be undertaken to treat him,” the Governor said.

He said the government would do its best to ensure the best treatment for the senior actor.

He said a permanent mechanism had to be established in the country to ensure welfare of living legends like Sharif during their times of hardship.

The Governor recalled that incumbent Federal Finance Minister, Shaukat Tareen, had earlier established a Legends’ Trust for the same purpose, and he had talked to Tareen to revive the charitable effort and increase its endowment fund.
