The stunt put both the man and passing commuters in serious danger
Dubai: In a bizarre incident in Bengaluru, a video of a man casually sipping tea while seated in the middle of a busy road has gone viral on social media.
The video shows the man in a blue shirt, sitting on a plastic chair right on the road, calmly drinking tea as autorickshaws and two-wheelers pass by. The clip, reportedly filmed on April 12 and uploaded to Instagram, quickly gained traction online. However, the stunt not only endangered the man but also posed a serious risk to passing commuters.
Taking note of the viral clip, Bengaluru City Police tracked down and arrested the man. On Thursday, the department shared a post on X (formerly Twitter) with a stern warning:
“Taking tea time to the traffic line will brew you a hefty fine, not fame! BEWARE—BCP is watching you.”
They also released a follow-up video showing the man at the police station with officers standing behind him.
The video sparked mixed reactions online. While some users were amused, others called out the stunt's recklessness and took the opportunity to raise broader civic concerns.
One user commented, “Do we have plans to install CCTV on Sarjapur Road where maximum road rage incidents happen?”
Another wrote, “Good. In JP Nagar to Marathahalli, deadly footpaths and roads exist. Request to file FIR on useless BBMP.”
Some responses were more sarcastic:
“High tea with bonda soup... inside jail.”
Others demanded stricter action. “Please take strict action on speeding riders in Basaveshwara Nagar… half the road is lost to bad parking. Pedestrians are really struggling and getting injured,” one post read.
