Nana joined the controversy after she weighed in, condemning his behaviour
The Boyz member Sunwoo, K-Pop star, has come under fire following a controversy surrounding his behaviour toward a security guard. His agency, OneHundred, has since issued an apology and pledged efforts to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Oneundred stated, “First, we deeply apologize for the fact that we did not properly manage this issue related to our artist’s character.
We are deeply aware that what is shown of Sunwoo in the video could lead to a controversy regarding his character. Sunwoo was also calmly reflecting [on his behavior] after discussing it with us.
However, we find it regrettable that the situation is currently unfolding in a different direction from what we and the artist were reflecting on. We deeply regret the fact that we were not more active in our management before this kind of incident occurred, as well as the fact that our artist behaved thoughtlessly." The agency went on to add that nevertheless, they will threaten legal action for those spreading malice.
The incident stemmed from a video that recently circulated on X (formerly Twitter) and various online communities. In the footage, Sunwoo is seen dropping his wireless earbuds while moving. Instead of retrieving them, he shouted, “My AirPods!” A nearby security guard picked up the earbuds and handed them to him using both hands. Sunwoo allegedly accepted them with one hand and minimal acknowledgment, sparking criticism.
Online reactions were divided, ranging from accusations of rude behavior to arguments that the clip lacked sufficient context for judgment.
Adding to the discussion, actress Nana—formerly of the girl group After School—commented on the video, writing, “He must be scolded.” She continued, “One shouldn't judge a person based only on a short video, but his behaviour seemed very rude,” further fueling the controversy.
In response to the escalating public discourse, oneundred stated, “We are disheartened that the situation is being interpreted differently from how the artist and our agency are reflecting on it.” They added, “We will strengthen communication with our artists to prevent such situations in the future.”
The agency also revealed that they are preparing strong legal action against unfounded malicious comments.
Before the agency released its official apology, Sunwoo also addressed fans on a communication platform, expressing fear over the backlash, but still not apologising. Sunwoo explained that even though it wasn’t captured in the video, he had bowed to the security guard and thanked him, and he also acknowledged that he saw how his behaviour in the video could be misconstrued.
"Do you think I would be crazy enough to show to the guard when everyone is watching? I'm so speechless that I feel like I should reflect back on my actions, but I'm so scared about how people can post malicious comments based on those few seconds in the video," he said.
