Oftentimes, weddings come with a side of performance. And so it was at one celebration in Haryana’s Nuh district, where a dancer stole the spotlight and a number of guests started jiving along with her.

She was however left reeling after being assaulted on stage. The incident was caught on camera and is being analysed by the police.

On Nov 16, the performer, Payal, was dancing when a relative of the groom approached her. With currency notes in his hand, he got too close for comfort. This is when the dancer slapped his hand away, reports Times of India. The rebuttal was quick and brutal.

Several men climbed up on stage and surrounded the dancers, pushing Payal to the floor and hitting her repeatedly, including with a stick. When her peers tried to help her, they were thrashed as well.

Police say the case is under investigation and the attackers are being identified.
