UAE: Sharjah issues mosquito safety guide

Sharjah: The Sharjah City Municipality has issued a set of guidelines to curb mosquito breeding during the rainy season, urging residents to take preventive measures to protect public health and maintain environmental standards.

The municipality highlighted that Puddle or standing water remains the primary cause of mosquito spread, calling on residents to regularly inspect their homes and surroundings to eliminate any water accumulation.

Authorities advised residents to remove standing water, maintain drainage systems, and ensure proper care of gardens and swimming pools to prevent mosquito breeding.

Regular trimming of trees and reducing dense vegetation were also recommended, as humid environments and thick shrubs create ideal conditions for mosquitoes to thrive.

The municipality warned that items such as flower pots, used tyres, abandoned containers and accumulated waste are among the most common mosquito breeding sites and can contribute to the spread of diseases.

Residents were urged to closely monitor their surroundings and ensure their properties are free from such hazards.

The municipality confirmed that a free public health pest control service is available to residents. Requests can be made through its official website or by contacting the call centre on 993.

The guidelines also stressed the importance of covering water tanks, preventing water accumulation at construction sites, and adhering to public safety and cleanliness standards.

Sharjah Municipality underscored that community cooperation is key to reducing mosquito spread and safeguarding public health during periods of rainfall.
