RTA announces traffic diversions on key stretch of Emirates Road for maintenance works
Dubai: The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced traffic diversions along a key stretch of Emirates Road, heading towards Sharjah, from June 9 to August 30, 2025.
According to a statement on its official social media channels, the diversion will affect the section between the Dubai–Al Ain interchange and the Ras Al Khor–Al Awir interchange. This stretch is heavily used by daily commuters between Dubai and Sharjah.
The RTA has urged all drivers to plan their journeys in advance, expect additional travel time, and consider alternative routes to reduce delays.
Signage and traffic management systems will be deployed to guide vehicles through detours and ensure road safety during the maintenance period.
Motorists are encouraged to follow the RTA’s official channels, including social media and navigation apps, for real-time updates on road closures, traffic conditions, and diversions.
The scheduled maintenance is part of RTA’s continued efforts to upgrade road infrastructure and provide a safer, more efficient driving experience for all road users across Dubai.
On Saturday, RTA announced a city-wide traffic improvement campaign covering 40 key locations, scheduled to run from June to September 2025.
The initiative includes upgrades on 22 main roads, nine school zones, five major development areas, and several internal road networks in communities such as Al Khawaneej 2 and Nad Al Sheba.
Timed to coincide with the summer holidays to minimise disruption, the project aims to improve road safety and traffic flow across the emirate.
Key enhancements include:
Upgrades at busy intersections
Safer school zones with new access points and pedestrian crossings
Improved connectivity in rapidly growing development areas like Al Muhaisnah and Nad Al Hamar
Local improvements in areas such as the Tolerance District and Al Quoz Creative Zone
The RTA says the initiative aligns with Dubai’s vision of becoming a smart, accessible, and safe city for all road users.
