Enhancements target school zones, new developments, and major roads to ease congestion
Dubai: Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has launched a comprehensive traffic improvement campaign across 40 strategic locations in the city, with works scheduled from June to September 2025.
The initiative spans 22 main roads, nine school zones, five major development areas, and several internal road networks in districts including: Al Khawaneej 2, and Nad Al Sheba.
Timed to coincide with the summer holiday, the upgrades are designed to minimise disruption to daily commuters and ensure the highest safety standards throughout the implementation phase.
Rapid urban growth
The initiative is part of RTA’s broader strategy to support Dubai’s rapid urban growth and economic expansion by improving road safety, traffic flow, and connectivity between residential neighborhoods, schools, and new developments.
Key Locations and Enhancements:
Major roads set for upgrades include Jumeirah Village Circle (towards Hessa Street), Ras Al Khor Road, Al Thanya Street, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Street, Al Meydan Street, Al Sa’ada Street, and Al Asayel Street.
Improvements at the busy junction of Al Wasl Street and Al Manara Street are also planned.
Safer School Zones:
To enhance safety and ease congestion around schools, RTA is upgrading nine key school zones. Highlights include:
New access roads at the Al Warqa 1 school complex
An additional bus entrance at GEMS School in Al Warqa 3
Expanded access points near The English College in Al Safa 1
A new signal-controlled pedestrian crossing on Al Seedaf Street in Al Barsha 1
Support for Development Zones:
To accommodate Dubai’s growing population and booming real estate sector, traffic enhancements in five major development zones are underway. Projects include:
A new direct route to Al Muhaisnah labour camps from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road
Upgrades to Al Mustaqbal Street (Brookfield) for better access to new residential areas
Improved links between Al Khail Road and Al Asayel Street via Al Marabea' Street
Junction improvements at Nad Al Hamar near Lootah Mosque
New parking spaces at Zayed Educational Complex in Oud Al Muteena 1
Local area improvements:
Internal roadworks will also be completed in Tolerance District, Al Khawaneej 2, Jebel Ali Industrial 1, Nad Al Sheba, and Al Warqa. In Al Quoz Creative Zone, new pedestrian walkways will enhance safety and walkability.
