Abu Dhabi: Amateur cycling groups that wish to undertake long-distance training on Abu Dhabi’s roads must now apply for a permit in advance.

The permits will allow long-distance training on roads with speed limits exceeding 80km/hr, and will be issued for free.

They are available through a dedicated page managed by the Abu Dhabi Police, in cooperation with the Department of Municipalities and Transport’s Integrated Transport Centre, the Abu Dhabi Sports Council and the Abu Dhabi Cycling Club.

Requirements

Proper safety gear must be used by all cyclists, including safety helmets, and all bikes must be fitted with front and rear lights. Groups must also be accompanied by an escort vehicle fitted with hazard lights, and cyclists must abide by all traffic regulations.

Apply in advance

Applications must be processed at least 48 hours in advance, and will be evaluated based on the requested time and route taken. The service aims to regulate the safe use of bicycles on the emirate’s roads.
