Abu Dhabi: The Abu Dhabi International Airport announced Monday the closure of its Terminal 2, the authority said on its Twitter account.
“As part of our continuous efforts to provide exceptional service to our airline partners and passengers, we are announcing the closure of Terminal 2 and migrating all existing flights to Terminal 1 at the airport”, a statement said.
The move comes after several flight suspensions in the wake of coronavirus, but the airport later clarified that this latest move was in no way connected to the outbreak.
“The closure of Terminal 2 at AUH is fully in line with our dedication to delivering exceptional service to our airline partners and passengers and is not in relation to the outbreak of Coronavirus (COVID-19)," a statement from the airport said on Monday.
“We are currently working with our airline partners to ensure a seamless transition of their operations to Terminal 1. We advise passengers to check the departure terminal with their respective airline before travelling.”
Additional measures for passengers arriving from visa exempt and high-risk countries were also released by the airport, following a UAE decision to suspend the issuance of entry visas.
This does not apply to passengers who hold passports from Visa-exempt countries entitled to a visa upon arrival – listed further below.
Passengers from visa-exempt countries and those arriving from high-risk countries will be subject to advanced polymerase chain reaction (PCR) testing at the airport.
Following testing, passengers will be required to self-isolate for four days. Following the four-day isolation period, passengers will be required to undertake a secondary PCR test to confirm a COVID-19 infection, the airport website said.
