Dubai taxis aren’t just about rides — they’re treasure troves of heartwarming tales

From returned valuables (cash, passport, anyone?!) to drivers doubling as food guides, there's some magic in every corner of a taxi journey in Dubai.
Now, a Nepalese taxi driver in Dubai has been spotted crooning a hit song by Filipino band Aegis.
The video, taken recently by Chris, was shared by a Filipino couple who took a cab ride from Bur Dubai, a district known for its South Asian food hub, to the Dubai Mall at the foot of the Burk Khalifa.
The Nepalese driver, identified only by his first name Baskar, happily sang the hit song Halik (“Kiss”) as he drove the guests in his mid-sized Toyota Camry.
He told his customers that he previously worked in Saudi Arabia alongside numerous 'Kabayans'. During the journey, Baskar also demonstrated his mastery of the Filipino language, said Chris.
Aegis, an all-female rock group, rose to prominence in the Philippine music scene during the late 1990s.
A refrain of the Filipino song roughly translates:
“Even if you go far away, the traces of our love will stay.
This song serves as a memory, that I will never forget you.”
Feel-good tunes, and stories
Dubai has a multi-national cadre of cabbies, with over 12,000 drivers under Dubai Taxi alone.
They are proficient in many languages, including Arabic, English, Urdu, Hindi, Nepali, Sri Lankan, Bengali, and Tagalog.
Cabbies in Dubai are also encouraged to learn other languages.
Dubai is full of feel-good stories, like the countless times passengers accidentally left their valuables in a cab — only to have them swiftly returned by honest drivers.
It’s like Dubai taxis come with a built-in "lost-and-found miracle"!
This cabbie has become viral for taking his guest to his favourite food hangout in Dubai, known as Karachi Darbar.
