Dubai: An Indian expatriate working as a chef in Dubai has won the latest Big Ticket weekly draw in Abu Dhabi. He takes home Dh1 million from the jackpot. Rafeek Mohammed Ahammed, hailing from Kozhikode in the Indian state of Kerala, won the mega prize after his ticket No 135561 was picked in the lucky draw. He shares the ticket with nine others.

Ahammed told Gulf News he was very happy to receive the news that he had won Dh1 million. “I still get a huge amount [from this win] for which I am grateful,” said Ahammed who works as a chef for an Emirati family in Dubai earning Dh2,200 a month.

“I have loans back in India. I borrowed money for my sister’s wedding. Now I will repay it. Plus charity is always on my mind. This time, I will contribute a bigger share to charity.”

Ahammed also said he would put a large part of the savings towards deposits for the future.

Earlier this month, Big Ticket announced that for the first time, it would be making a millionaire every week in December. On December 9, Big Ticket conducted the first of four such e-draws. Ahammed will still stand a chance to win the mega Dh25 million grand prize, Dh2 million second prize or four other cash prizes on January 3.
