Dubai: In a powerful example of community giving, the UAE public have helped raise nearly Dh6 million for delivery riders, drivers, and taxi captains through a Ramadan campaign launched by Careem.

Called "Tip Matching" initiative, the Everything application has maximised customer contributions by matching every tip of Dh10 or more, at no additional cost to users.

The programme has been conducted from February 18 to March 31, extending financial support for frontline workers.

Over 160,000 tips matched

The initiative has benefited more than 31,000 captains across Careem’s delivery, ride-hailing, and Hala taxi services, boosting earnings during the holy month.

According to Careem, over 160,000 tips have been matched during the campaign, reflecting strong participation from customers across the country.

While many contributed modest amounts, some have rendered exceptional generosity tipping over Dh1,000.

Customers as partners

Mudassir Sheikha, CEO and co-founder of Careem, has credited the UAE community for the initiative’s success.

"I am deeply grateful to the customers who became partners in our mission of serving our communities. Your generosity towards captains in the form of tips was a powerful act of recognition for the captains’ hard work," said Sheikha.

"We were honored to match your contributions, but the spark came from you. Thank you for letting us be part of your journey of giving and for helping us ensure that those who serve our community are rewarded for their tireless service and resilience."

Beyond financial support

Apart from tip matching, Careem has extended its Ramadan efforts through the distribution of more than 10,000 iftar meals across the Emirates, in collaboration with the Roads and Transport Authority and other partners.

Moreover, it has hosted iftar gatherings for delivery captains, creating opportunities for connection and appreciation during the holy month.

By amplifying small acts of generosity, the campaign has showcased how collective community action can support thousands of workers across the UAE.
