The Dubai Health Authority (DHA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Standing Committee for Labour Affairs — Dubai, to enhance the health and safety of the labour workforce.

Speaking during the signing of the MoU in Dubai on Sunday, His Excellency Humaid Al Qutami, Chairman of the Board, and Director-General of the DHA, said that the UAE, since its inception, has established laws and regulations that ensure the rights of labourers and look after their wellbeing and safety. This has enabled DHA to embrace more than 200 nationalities from all over the world.

He added that all the laws and regulations that safeguard the rights of workers are based on the values that characterise the UAE’s society. It is also based on the origins of the state and its culture, which has established and strongly supports the principles of coexistence.

Cooperative effort

The MoU was signed by Al Qutami and Major General Obaid Muhair Bin Surour, Deputy Director of the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Dubai and chairman of the Standing Committee for Labour Affairs.

The MoU will open cooperation between both parties to provide decent healthcare for the labour force in Dubai, raise awareness about leading a healthy lifestyle, and educate them on how to maintain their health and fitness.

It aims to increase their participation in health campaigns that provide free comprehensive medical examinations. It also hopes to raise the level of satisfaction among workers and support them in having a healthy environment in both their workplace and where they live.

Al Qatami pointed out that quality healthcare is one of the priorities of the UAE in general and Dubai in specific, which is why the DHA exerts great effort to preserve the health and safety of workers through ongoing health awareness and  prevention campaigns. It also conducts free medical examinations for the labour workforce at their accomodation and in their workplace.
