Dubai Health Authority (DHA), GE Healthcare and Columbia HeartSource recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) expressing their mutual interest in collaborating and exploring the establishment of a Cardiology Centre of Excellence in Dubai.

The centre would utilise the most advanced technology and equipment to help deliver the best patient care possible and will focus on training, education and research in the field of cardiology.

It will also serve as a central training hub for Mena, potentially enhancing Dubai’s competitive capabilities in cardiology and further bolstering its position on the global medical tourism map.

“Cardiology is one of the most important fields of medicine and DHA is aware of the growing demand for its health services across hospitals, primary care centres and specialised centres,” said His Excellency Humaid Al Qatami, Chairman of the Board and Director General of DHA. “The move to develop a centre of excellence is in line with our vision to provide specialised healthcare for our population and visitors alike.”

DHA has highly qualified healthcare professionals in the field of cardiology and its cardiology departments are recognised for the specialised services they provide, both in interventional and open-heart cardiac procedures. The cardiology departments have become referral centres for complicated cases and the establishment of a Cardiology Centre of Excellence will further help in the provision of high-level care.

The MoU will help facilitate knowledge transfer and know-how to DHA leadership, management and delivery teams to achieve a self-sustaining, internationally recognised centre of excellence. GE Healthcare will support DHA by sharing global best practice, solutions and capabilities, advisory services as well as its international network of partners. It provides transformational medical technologies and services to meet the demand for increased access, enhanced quality and affordable healthcare around the world.

From medical imaging, software and IT, patient monitoring and diagnostics to drug discovery, biopharmaceutical manufacturing technologies and performance improvement solutions, the company helps medical professionals deliver great healthcare.

Columbia HeartSource, established in 1997, has provided healthcare consulting and executive management services to hospitals. It has worked with its affiliate members to transfer cardiovascular clinical knowledge, establish and manage quality assurance systems, provide leadership and training, and supply growth and management expertise in establishing and managing cardiac care programmes.
