Ramadan 2025 in UAE: 7-week countdown begins, expected Eid Al Fitr dates revealed

Dubai: The holy month of Ramadan is seven weeks away, with astronomers predicting its start on March 1, 2025, Ibrahim Al Jarwan, Chairman of the Emirates Astronomy Society, said.

The beginning of Ramadan, observed by Muslims worldwide, is subject to confirmation by a Moon-sighting committee.

Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, is marked by fasting from dawn to dusk, increased prayers and acts of charity.

It commemorates the Quran’s revelation to the Prophet Muhammed (PBUH).

During Ramadan, UAE labour laws mandate shorter work hours, reducing the standard eight-hour day to six hours.

However, the reduction does not apply to all workers, and commuting time is generally excluded from working hours.

The Eid Al Fitr holiday, which follows the end of Ramadan, is expected to fall from Monday, March 31, to Thursday, April 3, if Ramadan completes 30 days and ends on Sunday, March 30. However, if Ramadan completes 29 days and ends on Saturday, March 29, the holiday would begin on Sunday, March 30, and continue until Wednesday, April 2.

In either case, the holiday provides an extended break for UAE residents, allowing families to celebrate the end of Ramadan and the start of Shawwal with communal prayers, gatherings and charitable activities. Official confirmation of the exact holiday dates will depend on the Moon-sighting committee’s announcement closer to the end of Ramadan.
