Abu Dhabi: A total of 1,497 prisoners in the UAE were granted pardon by the country's rulers on the occasion of the 46th National Day.

President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan on Monday pardoned 645 prisoners. 

The order is in line with Shaikh Khalifa’s keenness to give the pardoned prisoners an opportunity to start a new life and alleviate the burden on their families.

Ali Mohammad Al Beloushi, Abu Dhabi Attorney General, said the Abu Dhabi Public Prosecution has implemented the orders of Shaikh Khalifa, and coordinated with Abu Dhabi Police in order to ensure that the pardoned inmates can quickly return to their families join them during National Day celebrations.

His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE, in his capacity as Ruler of Dubai, ordered the release of 606 inmates from Dubai’s punitive and corrective institutions.

Essam Eisa Al Humaidan, Dubai’s Attorney General, said that the order reflects the keenness of Shaikh Mohammad to offer the pardoned inmates a chance to reintegrate into the society.

Al Humaidan also said the Public Prosecution has started coordinating with Dubai Police to carry out the order.

His Highness Shaikh Saud Bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, has also ordered the release of 246 prisoners.
