Dubai: Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has launched the second phase of its initiative to upgrade waiting areas at major marine transport stations, reinforcing its commitment to world-class public services.

The upgrade covers five strategically important stations: Al Fahidi, Baniyas, Al Seef, Sheikh Zayed Road, and Bluewaters.

This phase of the project aims to improve the marine transport experience by providing modern, air-conditioned waiting areas equipped with dedicated spaces for People of Determination. Designed in line with international standards, the upgraded facilities will enhance customer satisfaction while reflecting the cultural and architectural heritage of Dubai.

Drawing inspiration from the city’s traditional wooden abras, the new station designs blend heritage with contemporary aesthetics to celebrate Dubai’s maritime legacy within a modern urban environment.

Khalaf Belghuzooz Al Zarooni, Director of Marine Transport at RTA’s Public Transport Agency, said: “This project is a key component of RTA’s long-term plan to develop marine transport infrastructure and elevate service quality. It aligns with the government’s vision to deliver world-class services to both residents and visitors.”

Connectivity

The new stations are designed to strengthen connectivity with major landmarks and residential areas, while integrating seamlessly with other public transport modes such as the metro, tram, and bus networks. The upgrades also support Dubai’s sustainability goals by encouraging public transport use and reducing dependence on private vehicles.

Safety remains a top priority in the new designs, with features including advanced surveillance systems and state-of-the-art fire alarms. Additionally, the stations will fully comply with the Dubai Universal Design Code, ensuring inclusivity for People of Determination through thoughtfully designed ramps, accessible pathways, and supportive facilities.

Station locations were chosen based on increasing demand and strategic value, ensuring the continued modernization of Dubai’s marine transport network and reaffirming RTA’s commitment to innovation, customer happiness, and a higher quality of urban life.
