Sharjah: A fire in a villa in Al Suyoh area in Sharjah at dawn on Tuesday claimed the life of a 63 year old Emirati man and left his 12 year old daughter seriously injured, police said.
Meanwhile, nine people, including family members and housemaids, were safely rescued.
Sharjah Civil Defence Authority’s operations room received a call at 4:27am about a fire accident occurring in a house in Al Suyouh 16 area, as a result of which the Civil Defence team was moved from Al Saja’a Center. Upon arrival, the incident was dealt with, and the fire was extinguished.
It was found that there was a 12-year-old girl suffering from burns in the yard of the house, and she was treated by the National Ambulance.
The father was taken out of one of the rooms and was suffering from suffocation as a result of inhaling smoke. They were taken to Kuwaiti Hospital and Qassimi Hospital by the National Ambulance. The father was declared dead in Kuwaiti Hospital.
The fire resulted in the burning of four rooms and the hall.
The Sharjah Civil Defence Authority called on all members of society to follow fire safety procedures; the importance of installing smoke detectors; turning off all unnecessary electrical appliances before going to sleep; not loading them beyond their capacity, and perform regular maintenance on all appliances in the house to avoid fire accidents.
Investigations are ongoing to find the cause of the fire. Police forensic experts are working to find out what led to the blaze.
