Dubai: Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), in collaboration with the Ministry of Interior and Dubai Police, has launched its annual ‘Summer Without Accidents’ campaign, aiming to reduce traffic incidents and enhance road safety across the city during the hot summer months.

Running from July through September 2025, the campaign is part of RTA’s broader traffic awareness strategy. It supports the Authority’s vision to improve transport safety and reduce avoidable incidents during the high-risk summer period.

‘Summer Without Accidents’ campaign

The campaign features a wide range of public outreach initiatives, including awareness messages displayed on digital billboards across the city, at Customer Happiness Centres, and on RTA’s smart apps and social media channels. Government and private sector partners are also joining in to amplify the reach.

Ahmed Al Khzaimy, Director of Traffic at RTA’s Traffic and Roads Agency, emphasised the importance of basic vehicle maintenance before any journey.

“We urge all motorists to carry out routine checks before driving,” said Al Khzaimy. “Simple inspections — such as checking tyre pressure, engine oil, coolant levels, and looking for fluid leaks — can prevent breakdowns and reduce accident risks.”

Never leave children unattended in cars

Al Khzaimy also warned against a recurring summer hazard: leaving children unattended in vehicles. He stressed that even with air conditioning on, children can suffer from heatstroke or suffocation in a sealed car within minutes.

“This is a deadly mistake that can happen in seconds,” he said. “We particularly urge parents — especially mothers dropping off or picking up children — to never leave kids alone in a parked car under any circumstance.”

Engaging with community

To spread the message further, RTA is engaging with the community through events such as Dubai Summer Surprises and student summer camps. Each awareness initiative is tailored to suit the event and audience, with special emphasis on reaching families and young drivers.

“The aim is to embed a culture of traffic safety in daily life,” Al Khzaimy noted.

Tips for motorists

As part of the campaign, RTA also issued a set of practical driving and vehicle maintenance tips to help reduce heat-related vehicle failures and enhance safety on the roads:

  1. Ensure the air conditioning system works properly to keep the vehicle cool during extreme heat.

  2. Check engine oil and radiator coolant levels regularly, as overheating is more likely in summer.

  3. Maintain correct tyre pressure and replace worn tyres to avoid blowouts.

  4. Keep the brake system clean and replace worn parts to ensure optimal performance.

  5. Clean windows and headlights for better visibility, and keep the vehicle tidy to spot issues early.

  6. Avoid parking under direct sunlight for long periods. Use shaded areas when possible to protect vehicle interiors and systems from excessive heat.

  7. The campaign underscores RTA’s continued commitment to road safety through public education, community engagement, and proactive risk prevention.
