Swift response under dangerous conditions prevents potential tragedy near breakwater
Dubai: In a swift and courageous operation, Dubai’s maritime rescue team saved 14 people from a ship that had run aground near the breakwater during hazardous sea conditions.
High winds and powerful waves posed a serious threat, but the team’s prompt response and professionalism averted what could have been a major tragedy.
Major Marwan Al Kaabi, Head of the Maritime Rescue Unit at Dubai Police, told Gulf News that his team operates around the clock and has handled numerous emergencies under similar conditions. “This is just one of many incidents we’ve responded to,” he said.
The rescue operation was launched after the control room received an alert that a vessel had lost steering due to rough weather and was drifting dangerously close to the breakwater. Without delay, the rescue unit rushed to the scene, fully equipped to face the perilous sea.
Upon arrival, they were met with high waves and severe weather — conditions that make maritime rescues extremely risky. Undeterred, the team worked tirelessly for several hours, battling the storm to reach those onboard. One by one, all 14 individuals were safely evacuated. Remarkably, no injuries were reported.
Officials commended the team for their bravery, discipline, and rapid response. The incident highlighted the exceptional readiness and capability of Dubai’s maritime rescue services.
The rescued passengers expressed overwhelming relief and gratitude. Many said they feared for their lives and credited the team’s fearless and compassionate response with saving them.
Several also praised the kindness and care shown during the rescue — a reminder that even in the most perilous moments, human compassion prevails.
