Abu Dhabi: Thousands of Emiratis, who were looking for jobs flocked to the three-day annual job fair — Tawdheef — that started on Monday in Abu Dhabi.
On first day between around 7,000 Emiratis visited the fair and submitted their CVs. The Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre was flooded with Emirati fresh graduates and even employed Emirati women, who were looking for better job opportunities.
Gulf News interacted with a number of job seekers to know about their expectations from the job fair.
Wala Mubarak, 25-year-old Emirati woman, who came from Al Ain to submit her CV at the fair, said: “I completed my education just couple of months back and now I am looking for a job pertaining to my qualification in law, and I am open to work any sector — government or private.”
She had done Bachelors of Law from the UAE University in Al Ain.
“So far, I have submitted five CVs to different entities and hope to get some opportunity soon. I understand it’s difficult to find a job now-a-days but hope that this exhibition will be lucky for me,” Mubarak said.
For 24-year-old, Aisha Al Nuwaimi, any job in any company’s legal department or any contracting company is good but the salary should not be less than Dh20,000 a month. But Al Nuwaimi, a law graduate from the UAE University, said that she may accept less salary because of “tight job market” and limited opportunities.
More than 100 entities from the public and private sectors are participating in the 12th edition of the job fair.
The fair is being held under the patronage of Shaikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance.
A mother of six children, Shamma Al Kindi was also at the job fair, looking for an opportunity.
Shamma said, “I have submitted my CVs at three to four places and hope to get a job as a consultant or in customer care department of any public or private company.”
“I am working in a government company in Al Ain but now I have moved to Abu Dhabi, so I want to change my job,” she said.
Some Emiratis who came to the fair, said that they have been looking for jobs for more than a year.
Abdul Rahman Al Badi, 24, said he has been looking for a mechanical engineering job for last six months but nothing has materialised. He said that he is hopeful of getting a job at this fair. “I have submitted my CV at five government entities and I will be here on all three days of the fair.”
Sara Al Mheiri, human resources division manager at Abu Dhabi Education and Knowledge (Adek), said: “Adek strives to build and empower competitive national capabilities and facilitate the transfer of knowledge towards establishing a knowledge-based economy through this event.”
The fair, is being held in partnership with Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development and organised by Informa Exhibitions. It focuses on three key pillars — career development, training and employment.
