The municipality celebrates World Day for Safety and Health at Work in Dubai
Dubai: In celebration of World Day for Safety and Health at Work, Dubai Municipality hosted an event focusing on the transformative role of artificial intelligence (AI) in occupational health and safety.
Held at the Canadian University Dubai on Monday, the event brought together key government officials, experts, and industry leaders to discuss how AI and cutting-edge technology are reshaping workplace safety standards, enhancing risk management, and promoting a culture of prevention globally.
The theme of the event, “Artificial Intelligence Trends in Shaping the Future of Occupational Health and Safety,” aligned with the International Labour Organisation’s call to raise awareness about preventing occupational accidents and diseases. The discussions underscored how emerging technologies, especially AI, are pivotal in creating safe and sustainable work environments in the face of rapid technological advancements.
Eng. Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita, Acting Director General of Dubai Municipality; Khalfan Belhoul, CEO of the Dubai Future Foundation, and Buti Saeed Al Ghandi, Chancellor of Canadian University Dubai, attended the event. The event also featured Dr. Naseem Mohammed Rafie, Acting CEO of the Environment, Health and Safety Agency at Dubai Municipality, who highlighted the city’s proactive approach to integrating AI into health and safety initiatives.
Dr. Rafie noted: “With rapid advancements in digitization, the role of artificial intelligence in improving work environments has never been more critical. Dubai has taken the lead in adopting AI for real-time risk monitoring and mitigation, ensuring the safety and well-being of our workforce.”
The Municipality’s innovative use of AI-driven technologies, such as smart sensors, cameras, and 3D printing, continues to set benchmarks in workplace safety. Its commitment to building a sustainable and innovative society is evident through initiatives like interactive training using virtual reality and AI-enhanced smart maps. As Dubai strives to become a global hub for innovation, the Municipality encourages businesses and institutions to embrace AI in their operations to ensure the future of occupational health and safety.
