In an incident that could have gone badly wrong, four drivers were spotted racing on the roads in the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah.
The Ras Al Khaimah Police, using smart tech to monitor the perpetrators, managed to locate and stop the illegal race.
Authorities have since confiscated the vehicles. Hassan Al Zaabi, Deputy Director of the Traffic and Patrol Administration of Ras Al Khaimah Police, explained a post on social media, was one of the officers who took note of a report calling attention to speeding cars.
He said the necessary legal action will be taken against them and the vehicles have been seized, given the seriousness of such actions.
The cars will be impounded for 120 days and owners fined Dh10,000 each, whereas the drivers will be fined Dh1,000 and 23 black points.
Al Zaabi stressed the necessity for drivers and road users to follow traffic systems and laws in place.
The move is in line with the efforts of Ras Al Khaimah Police to create awareness of safe driving practices.
