Dubai: Dubai Police have impounded two vehicles after their drivers were caught performing dangerous stunts on public roads in a bid to gain popularity on social media.

Brigadier Juma Salem bin Suwaidan, Acting Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police, confirmed that traffic patrols were able to identify the drivers after videos of the stunts went viral online.

In the footage, both individuals were seen recklessly climbing onto the bonnets of their moving vehicles while recording content intended to attract online views.

“This kind of reckless behaviour poses a serious risk to the safety of the drivers and other road users. It is a clear violation of traffic laws and cannot be tolerated,” said Brigadier bin Suwaidan.

Heavy penalties imposed

Dubai Police took swift action by seizing both vehicles under Decree No. 30 of 2023, which stipulates a fine of Dh50,000 to release any impounded vehicle involved in such violations.

Brigadier bin Suwaidan reiterated the force’s zero-tolerance policy towards dangerous driving and reckless stunts. He also warned that attempting to justify such actions for the sake of social media engagement does not excuse putting lives at risk.

“Public roads are not places for stunts. Promoting such behaviour online is completely unacceptable,” he added.

Public urged to report offences

The public is encouraged to follow traffic laws and report any dangerous or suspicious activity via the 'Police Eye' feature on the Dubai Police app or by calling the non-emergency number 901.
