Abu Dhabi: The Department of Economic Development (DED) in Abu Dhabi has seized 6,230 counterfeit shoes, bags and other leather goods.

The goods were found by authorities inside an apartment in the capital.

Mohammad Munif Al Mansouri, Acting CEO of the Abu Dhabi Business Centre, said the fake goods were seized during periodic inspection campaigns carried out by inspectors at the DED’s Commercial Protection Administration and on consumer complaints received by the Governmental Communication Centre of Abu Dhabi.

Al Mansouri that the sized shoes and bags had been labelled as major brands, in violation of the intellectual property rights of these brands.

He said that the DED fined those facilities which were found violating regulations of the commercial activity in the emirate and carrying out commercial activities without obtaining a licence or the required permissions.

Fines were also issued for possessing, marketing, producing purchasing and importing counterfeit goods.
