Dubai: Fresh showers in Ras Al Khaimah, Ajman and Fujairah on Tuesday afternoon brought slight respite from the summer heat for the second straight day.

The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) on Tuesday said light rain was reported at Kadra in Ras Al Khaimah and Siji in Fujairah while light to moderate rain was recorded at Al Manama in Ajman.

Residents in the eastern part of the country have been urged to take precaution as different intensities of rain were expected along with dusty conditions on Tuesday afternoon.

Heavy rain also lashed Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah on Monday afternoon.

“The convective clouds formed in the eastern parts of UAE only. The wind saturated with humidity from the Oman Sea in the east will let the air to condense, resulting in convective clouds,” a forecaster from NCM told Gulf News.

Visibility also dropped to less than 2,000m in the eastern region due to the cloud activity.

To enhance the chances of rain, the weather bureau also conducted cloud seeding operations yesterday

“Also, this case will be combined with fresh winds at times that would cause dusty conditions because of the strong winds from the downdraft. We have also issued a warning to the public to take all precautions when driving in the area.”

To enhance the chances of rain and amount of rainfall, the weather bureau also conducted cloud seeding operations on Tuesday.

Chances of rain, however, will be weak on Wednesday, he said.

Showers at this time of the year are normal, the forecaster said. Moist air coming from the Oman Sea is obstructed by the Hajar mountains pushing it upward. The resultant water vapour then condenses into droplets of water and falls as rain over the neighbouring areas.

The eastern areas usually experience these showers from June to September due to their location while the rest of the country sizzle in the summer heat.

The average temperatures for most of the country will be in the high of 30 degree Celsius on Wednesday. Dubai’s temperature will range from 29C to 42C, while Abu Dhabi will have 31C to 43C and Sharjah 30C to 43C.
