Sharjah Airport alerts passengers on flight disruptions amid airspace closures
Sharjah Airport has advised all passengers to stay updated on their flight schedules as several services have been delayed or cancelled due to temporary airspace closures in parts of the Middle East.
In a statement issued Monday evening, airport authorities urged travellers to contact their respective airlines directly for the latest information before heading to the airport.
The alert follows regional disruptions triggered by Iran’s missile strike on a US military base in Qatar, an escalation that prompted airspace closures in Qatar, Bahrain, and Kuwait earlier in the day.
Dubai Airports confirmed that its operations have since resumed at full capacity after a brief suspension. However, it cautioned that some flights may still face delays or cancellations, and passengers should monitor updates via their airlines.
Sharjah-based Air Arabia also issued a passenger advisory, noting that "due to the escalating situation and airspace closures across the region, some flights may experience disruptions." Affected passengers are being notified directly via SMS and email, and are encouraged to check flight updates at airarabia.com.
Etihad Airways, the UAE’s national carrier, announced it is rerouting several flights on June 23 and 24 in response to ongoing restrictions, warning of possible delays over the coming days. The airline is actively monitoring the situation and advised passengers to check their flight status on etihad.com.
Emirates airline confirmed it had rerouted a number of flights on June 23 due to the regional situation, although no diversions were ultimately required.
Airspace restrictions across multiple GCC countries are expected to cause temporary disruption and congestion, with airlines prioritising safety and operational adjustments as the situation evolves.
