Airspace closures: UAE's Air Arabia issues alert for passengers

Sharjah-based carrier Air Arabia issued an advisory for passengers on Monday evening, following the disruption in airspaces after Iran struck a US base in Qatar.

“Due to the escalating situation and airspace closures across the region, some flights may experience disruptions. Customers are advised to check their flight status on airarabia.com for the latest updates,” the carrier said.

“Affected passengers will be notified directly via SMS and email,” the airline added.

The statement comes shortly after Abu Dhabi’s Etihad Airways alerted passengers that it was re-routing many flights following the recent closure of airspaces above Qatar, Bahrain and Kuwait.

“Etihad Airways is re-routing a number of its flights on Monday, June 23, and Tuesday, June 24, in response to airspace restrictions in parts of the Middle East,” the airline said.

“This is a developing situation and the airline is continuously monitoring security and airspace updates,” it added.

The airline said that the current situation was likely to cause “some disruption and delay to a number of flights over the coming days”.
