Over 7 million expected at Abu Dhabi Airport amidst recovering confidence
Abu Dhabi: UAE’s flag carrier Etihad Airways is gearing up for a very busy summer at Zayed International Airport in Abu Dhabi, anticipating over seven million passengers between now and the end of the season, the airline said on Thursday.
As travel confidence rebounds following recent regional uncertainties, the airline has issued a fresh travel advisory to its passengers.
Shaeb Alnuaimi, Etihad’s Director of Airport Operations, said: “We are looking forward to hosting millions of guests at Zayed International Airport as they head off on their summer holidays, including those flying on our seasonal routes to Malaga, Antalya, Santorini, Nice, and Mykonos.”
The summer travel season follows a period of conflict in the region, with the recent escalation in attacks between Israel and Iran causing a degree of uncertainty for many UAE travellers; however, with conditions stabilising, as the ceasefire agreement between the two countries holds, Etihad's forecast of welcoming over seven million passengers this summer.
To manage the increased volume of passengers, Etihad Airways has provided several key tips for travellers flying from Abu Dhabi:
Stay informed: Passengers are encouraged to utilise the “Manage My Booking” section on the airline’s website or mobile app for the latest flight information.
Early check-in: Etihad strongly advises arriving at Zayed International Airport at least four hours before the scheduled departure time, especially during peak travel periods.
The airline offers several convenient check-in options to help passengers arrive at their flight on time.
Online check-in: Available from 30 hours before departure via the website or app. Passengers checking in online can use self-service bag drops at the terminal
Off-airport facilities: Several check-in and bag-drop facilities are located at the Abu Dhabi Cruise Terminal (24 hours), The Fountains – YAS Mall (10 am to 10 pm), Mussafah (10 am to 10 pm), and Al Ain (10 am to 10 pm)
Home check-in: The MORAFIQ service allows check-in from home up to five hours before departure, including baggage handling and boarding pass delivery, starting at Dh185
Land and leave: Upon arrival in Abu Dhabi, this service facilitates direct travel to the destination while bags are delivered within three hours. Bookings can be made via the MORAFIQ app or website
Economy Class passengers are allowed 7kg of carry-on baggage, while First and Business Class guests can carry up to 12kg. Checked baggage allowance can be pre-purchased online or via the app at special rates.
Passengers flying to the United States must check in at Terminal A at least four hours before departure. Specific arrival times are recommended for the US Pre-clearance facility based on the class of travel.
