Dubai: The parking spaces in the Emirates Golf Club area next to Nakheel Metro station have now become a paid parking zone.

The move comes a month after the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and free-zone authority, the Dubai Multi Commodities Centre, DMCC, signed an agreement to introduce paid parking in the city’s bustling Jumeirah Lake Towers (JLT) district.

For years, motorists had enjoyed free parking in the Emirates Golf Course neighbourhood. Many left their cars here to take the Metro from Nakheel Station located opposite the golf club. The parking meters, which were installed in February, come under the code 388C.

A regular metro commuter said he has to shell out Dh22 daily towards parking costs alone. “I work in Deira and it is very difficult to find parking near my office. Now this is an added expense for me and I don’t think my company will reimburse the cost.”

Another motorist said he is considering buying a seasonal parking permit.
