Dubai: Gulf News and XPRESS staff were screened for Vitamin D deficiency under a special promotion by Axa Insurance and Unicare Medical Centre this week.
Dr Amal Joseph, GP at Unicare Medical Centre, said most people are not aware they are Vitamin D-deficient until they get tested.
She said some common symptoms people experience when they are Vitamin D deficient are cramps in the leg, muscular pain, back pain, hair and bone loss and strong mood swings.
K.C. Nissar, personnel and administration manager, Gulf News, said, “Over 90 per cent of the population in the UAE is Vitamin D-deficient. Considering this record number, we wanted our staff to get tested. We secured a subsidised rate of just Dh45 for the test from our insurance provider. We are glad many employees availed the special offer.”
