Dubai: A duck that recently went missing from the men’s toilet of a “smart, fuss-free” Dubai hotel has returned – but not before it caused a splash of fun and frolic.

Miguel Rojas, marketing manager at Rove Downtown, told XPRESS, “We put out a tweet when Duckie, a yellow rubber duck placed in the men’s toilet in the main lobby, suddenly disappeared three weeks ago.”

“Missing”, the tweet with the hashtag #FindingDuckie announced, asking social media users, “Have you seen him?”

Animated response

Duckie’s vital stats were also given along with its picture. According to the tweet, the duck’s height was 25cm, age three years and weight four pounds, its “best feature” being its “kissable lips”.

The post drew an animated response, with everyone from At The Top and Reel Cinemas to Dubai Aquarium and Vida Downtown spreading the word.

“The hunt is on for @rovehotels beloved Duckie. Someone spotted him having a chat with our penguins before disappearing again. We think he may have gotten himself into hot water. Don’t forget to use #FindingDuckie should you manage to spot him,” said a tweet by Dubai Aquarium.

“Is this the duck reported missing from Rove Downtown? He was last spotted visiting @VidaDowntown. If you have any info about his whereabouts, snap a pic and tag #FindingDuckie. Let’s help @RoveHotels find Duckie!,” said VidaDowntown.

“Oh no! Duckie has been ducknapped… let’s quack the case,” exclaimed Digital Ink Media while The R.G. World called it a “sad ducknapping under mysterious circumstances”.

As #FindingDuckie trended, one woman posted a picture of a little girl against a huge red duck with a message saying she had found Duckie and that he had forgotten his sunblock. To which, Rove Downtown promptly replied, “Duckie, is that you?! His tanning got a bit out of hand.”

The light-hearted exchanges notwithstanding, the question of how Duckie could have disappeared remained.

But as Rojas said, a week later, Duckie was returned to the hotel by a visitor under equally mysterious circumstances.

The misadventure over, the rubber duck is now sitting pretty again in the hotel’s lobby toilet.
