ERC sends aid to Yemen’s Socotra Island

Socotra was hit by two cyclones that wreaked havoc on the small island

Socotra: The Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) has sent a relief aid flight, which includes large quantities of food aid, to Socotra Island to help people affected by the tropical cyclone Megh which hit the island last November.

The ERC in coordination with Salma humanitarian relief programme has provided the flight relief.

Currently, Socotra island is facing a difficult situation as a result of the hurricane, which brought life to a standstill, displaced a lot of people and damaged its infrastructure and properties. The ERC started its relief programme and provided food aid and essential needs to help the affected. It inspected the humanitarian situation in the island and discharged many humanitarian tasks.

The ERC is continuously sending aid to Yemen, launching humanitarian programmes to alleviate the suffering of people there.

Hurricane Megh hit the island a week after Cyclone Chapala causing heavy rains, floods, casualties and material losses as well as displacing thousands of people and destroying hundreds of houses.
