Young Saudis show off Al Faifa mountain car stunts

Abu Dhabi: Pictures and videos have been circulated on social media of young Saudis demonstrating their driving and shooting skills on top of the Al Faifa Mountains in the south of the Kingdom..

Rising 2,600 metres above sea level, the mountains, some 60 kilometres from the Red Sea and around 100 kilometres from the city of Jazan, are home to stunning green terraces that were carved out centuries ago.

A group of men parked their vehicles on the edge of the abyss, and demonstrated their skills in capturing wild stunts.

The reactions of social media users varied; Some saw the need to contain their driving talents by participating in organised car festivals, and joining specialised academies.

They were of the opinion that due to the lack of activities or entertainment programmes in Jazan, they are pushed into dangerous acts to fill the void.

Others see the need to hold them accountable for their irresponsible acts, considering that by doing so they may endanger their lives and the lives of residents and visitors of the Al Faifa’s hanging terraces, which see around one million visitors every year, who come to enjoy its greenery and magnificent peaks, as well as to explore its slopes filled with history and culture.
