Dubai: The story of Saudi Arabia’s first-ever female barber for boys is trending on social media in the kingdom, after a video of her cutting the hair of a child went viral. Her story has been shared by several Arabic media outlets in the region. 

Featured in a news report by Saudi news outlet Sayyidati, Wafa' Saqer and her story have gone viral, especially after famous social media figure Abdul Rahman Al Mutairi shared excerpts of a clip taken while she was cutting a young boy’s hair.

The clip got over a million views on Twitter. In the video, he hailed Wafa’ and expressed his support for her. Most comments were very supportive of Wafa’ commending her on breaking stereotypes about jobs that are suitable for women.

She said her biggest supporter was her mother, who is very proud of her daughter’s work as a barber.

Wafa’ has been honing her skills at home for two years, and learned different haircuts, including the French style.  She also revealed that her goal was to open her own salon that carries her name.

Not all social media users were supportive. Some criticised Wafa’ saying that it is a job for men. Wafa’ Saqer has advised youth in her country to go after their dreams.
