Accident occurred when bus was coming down a slope in Mecca region
Cairo: A bus carrying female students went out of control in Saudi Arabia, leaving several of them injured, media reports said.
The accident occurred as the driver lost control of the vehicle as it was coming down a slope in Al Kamil governorate, part of the Mecca region, and rammed into an earthen barrier, Okaz newspaper reported.
As a result, a number of students were injured and transported by air ambulances to hospitals. Civil defence teams helped in extricating the bus from the site.
Traffic police began investigating the accident and whether the bus brakes were in good condition.
Mecca authorities reported the accident and said the traffic department in Al Kamil had handled the swerving of a school bus, resulting in injuries and material damage. “The necessary medical care was provided for the injured,” authorities added in a brief X post.
In recent weeks, Saudi media reported several fatal accidents.
Earlier this month, one person died in a pileup involving 11 cars in Riyadh.
The accident happened due to the recklessness of a driver of one vehicle that hit the pavement and the roadway median, the Saudi Traffic Directorate added.
In December, four people were killed and two others injured after a truck collided with a bus on a road linking Al Qassim in central Saudi Arabia with the western city of Medina.
That month, a pileup between 20 vehicles in Riyadh also left one person dead and 10 others injured.
