Hail and strong winds stir dust and sand across Mecca region
Dubai: Saudi Arabia’s National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) has forecast several days of moderate to heavy rainfall starting today (Monday) across much of the country, warning that stormy conditions are expected to persist until the middle of next week.
The NCM said the regions of Jazan, Asir, Al Baha, Mecca, Tabuk, and Medina will experience widespread rain, with the highlands of Jazan, Asir, Al Baha, and Mecca set to receive the heaviest downpours. Parts of Riyadh and Najran could also see light to moderate showers.
Authorities warned that the weather could trigger flash floods, hail, and strong downward winds stirring dust and sand, particularly across the Mecca region.
Cities and towns expected to be affected include Mecca, Taif, Al Laith, Al Qunfudhah, and several others in the wider governorate.
The Civil Defence has urged residents to remain indoors where possible, avoid valleys and flood-prone areas, and stay away from swimming in open water during the storms.
It also called on the public to follow official updates through government websites and social media channels.
