Dubai: A Saudi woman has been sentenced to three days in jail for sending her ex-husband insulting messages, local media reported.

According to Okaz newspaper, the Saudi Court of Appeal upheld a verdict issued by the Criminal Court in Jeddah, sentencing the woman to 3 days in prison, after she was found guilty of sending her ex-husband insulting and obscene messages.

The woman was also requested to sign a pledge not to repeat her action.

The husband is said to have filed a case against his ex-wife following a series of WhatsApp and text messages that included dozens of insulting, cursing and contemptuous expressions, despite the end of their marital relationship about seven years ago.

According to reports, the insulting messages included expressions like “dictator”, “a robot without feelings”, “vile “, “a psychopath”, “immoral”, “cheater”, in addition to other bad words, threats and insults.

Upon being investigated, the woman admitted to sending her ex-husband the insulting messages, justifying her actions by saying that the messages were in revenge for his insulting and cursing messages, outlandish words and his bad manners with her family.
