Manama: A five-year-old Saudi girl fell to her death in a shopping mall in Jazan in the second tragedy to hit the commercial complex in southwest Saudi Arabia.

Fay was with her mother and uncle shopping for Eid when she fell from the third floor, local reports said.

Attempts by several people present at the scene to save her failed.

Shoppers who witnessed the drama said that the mother became hysterical upon seeing her daughter on the floor.

Fay’s grandfather confirmed the tragic incident.

“She was holding her mother’s hand while walking. However, at one moment, she let go of her and fell from an opening on the third floor near the escalators,” he said, quoted by Saudi news site Sabq. “The security staff moved her to a private clinic in Jazan, but the medical staff informed them that she was already dead. We humbly accept God’s will and her fate.”

Fay’s father, a security man mobilized to help with security during the pilgrimage, went back home for the funeral, the news site added.

The mall was struck by a tragic incident in February when a girl fell from a roller coaster and sustained critical injuries.

Shoppers called upon the authorities to impose a stricter monitoring and assessment of the safety measures adopted at the mall.
