Dubai: Saudi Arabia’s Attorney General Sheikh Saud bin Abdullah Al Muajab on Sunday ordered the arrest of a young man for insulting and assaulting two young women while they were walking on a street in the Kingdom, local media reported.
The order follows the circulation of a video clip on social media showing the man approaching the young women and using offensive words.
The monitoring unit at the Public Prosecution examined the content of the viral clip that shows the young man using offensive language contrary to Islamic conduct. The video also showed the man assaulting the young women while they were walking on a street, an official source at the Public Prosecution said.
The source said the Attorney General issued an order to lodge a public criminal lawsuit against him and arrest him immediately, prior to interrogation, and refer his case to the competent court.
He noted that the Public Prosecution would track down those who harm public order and freedom of citizens and expatriates, while stressing that it will spare no effort in bringing perpetrators to justice.
“The monitoring unit is working around the clock to monitor the content on social media, especially any criminal activity, by analysing content and identifying offenders and determining their location,” the source said.
“The results will then be presented to the unit’s technical team to determine the appropriate legal measures. This process is followed by issuing an arrest warrant or summons under the direct supervision of an undersecretary at the Public Prosecution, and then a final report is submitted to the Attorney General to issue the order for implementation,” the source added.
