Dubai: Saudi authorities have ramped up preparations at the Prophet’s Mosque in Medina rolling out a comprehensive service plan to accommodate the influx of worshippers and visitors during the holy month of Ramadan.

The General Presidency for the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque has announced an extensive operational plan covering prayer arrangements, cleaning schedules and visitor services.

Special preparations have been made for worshippers at Al Rawdah Al Sharifa and those visiting the tombs of Prophet Mohammad (Peace Be Upon Him) and his two companions, Abu Bakr and Umar.

To maintain cleanliness, 161 cleaning vehicles are deployed for continuous floor washing, while the mosque will be cleaned and sanitized five times a day.

Enhanced lighting and sound systems

The facility will also be perfumed with incense four times daily. More than 27,000 carpets have been placed throughout the mosque for worshippers.

Enhanced lighting and sound systems have been installed, with 138,560 lights illuminating the mosque and 6,060 loudspeakers ensuring clear audio coverage.

Worshippers will have access to 114 electronic screens displaying real-time information across the mosque and its courtyards.

Accessibility measures have also been expanded, with 2,782 restrooms, 180 escalators, 25 elevators, and 300 wheelchairs available for visitors. Authorities have allocated 30,000 chairs to support elderly worshippers.

Additional facilities include newly installed public restrooms in the western courtyards and upgraded sound systems within the mosque.

A children’s hospitality center has been set up in the northern courtyard, and service centers have been fully equipped to manage the anticipated surge in visitors.
