Cairo: Saudi police have arrested a suspected robber of a bank in Riyadh where he had made off with SR25,500 using a toy gun, a security official said.

The suspect obtained the money after he had threatened an employee at the bank to harm a customer with a gun before fleeing, spokesman for the Riyadh police Major Khalid Al Karidis said.

Shortly later, police identified and arrested the robber, who is a Philippine expatriate in his thirties, the official said.

“It transpired that the gun used in the crime was fake. Preliminary disciplinary procedures were taken and he was referred to public prosecution.”
