Abu Dhabi: An Iraqi teacher was executed in Saudi Arabia on Sunday, after he was convicted of killing two staff members of a private school in Riyadh and injuring a third, local media reported.

The man, an ex-employee of a Saudi private school shot dead two staff members and injured a third before he ran away.

No children were present when the shooting happened in 2017 at Kingdom School, which is part of the GEMS global network of schools and is owned and operated by Kingdom Holding Company, whose chairman is billionaire Prince Alwaleed bin Talal.

The man, who had been dismissed from the school four years earlier on the basis of anger issues and an unstable personality, had opened fire at the administration offices, killing the Saudi assistant school principal and a Palestinian employee.

“Osama Faisal Najm, an Iraqi, killed Abdulaziz bin Faihan Al Otaibi, a Saudi, and MOhammad Ismail Al Dawi, a Palestinian, by shooting them several times,” Saudi Ministry of Interior said in a statement.

“The authorities arrested the perpetrator, who was charged, referred to the Criminal Court, which sentenced him to death as retribution. “The judgment was confirmed by the Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court,” the ministry added.

It said the death sentence was executed as retribution for the perpetrator Osama Faisal Najm on Sunday in the Riyadh region.

Kingdom School is part of a group owned by Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, chairman of Kingdom Holding whose diversified investments include Citigroup and Time Warner.

The school, which has several buildings, opened in 2000 and offers boys’ and girls’ education from kindergarten to high school, according to its website.

The school has both a Saudi curriculum and an international programme leading to an American diploma.

In February 2016, a teacher reportedly killed six people at an education department office in the southern region of Jazan.
