Abu Dhabi: A joint Saudi Police and Food and Drug Authority team has raided an illegal factory producing fake coconut hair oil in Riyadh, officials said.

“A number of illegal residents duped consumers into believing that the spurious hair oil was produced in the Philippines for an American company,” the officials told the Riyadh-based Al Ekhbariya TV.

An official of the Saudi FDA said the suspects used an old villa for manufacturing coconut oil for hair and skin in primitive ways, and without licenses.

The police seized the factory including filtering and canning machines and stamps.

Rudimentary devices, materials of an unknown source, more than 5,000 empty packages, 2,500 ready-to-distribution packages, and 200,000 labels for trademarks in English, were also seized.
